The PGA Tour is in Japan this week for the Baycurrent Classic at Yokohama Country Club.
That means Round 1 starts tonight at 11 p.m. on Golf Channel for us East Coasters.
It’s a 72-man, no-cut event with a much stronger field than last week, which includes some pretty big names.
Xander Schauffele is back to defend, which is a tall order since nobody has ever gone back-to-back at this event.
U.S. Open champ Wyndham Clark (No. 5 in the world) is the top-ranked player here, with Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, Hideki Matsuyama and Rickie Fowler also in the field.
Jordan Spieth makes his first Japan start since 2019. He’s No. 55 in the FedExCup Fall standings and chasing a spot in the early 2027 Signature Events. Tom Kim withdrew on Oct. 3 after winning Asian Games gold, and Kris Ventura takes his spot.
There are real Tour card stakes too. Max Greyserman, runner-up here the last two years, sits at No. 98, with Tony Finau (No. 104) and others hovering around the top-100 line.
Fun Fact For Sickos: Titleist also officially starts tour seeding its 2027 Pro V1 and Pro V1x this week, so expect a few fresh sleeves in staff bags.
Key Stats
- Give complete drivers a bump. Distance and accuracy both rate slightly above the Tour average at Yokohama. Favor guys who combine length with fairways when narrowing down your betting card.
- Strong iron players deserve a look, even with an average putter. Approach play is one of the strongest predictors in this profile, while putting rates slightly below the Tour average. That gives good ball-strikers a little more appeal.
- Check the comparable courses. Conway Farms, East Lake and Pinehurst No. 2 are the three closest matches. Results there can help break a tie, but Yokohama’s profile is fairly close to Tour average, so keep those course-fit adjustments modest.

Do not be fooled by Wyndham Clark’s 1-4-0 record at Medinah. Clark was a ball-striking machine and impressive with the putter. Wyndham finished third for the week in SG: TOT and fourth for putting.
Translate that fine form to a venue that suits Clark along with the agronomy. The only two-time winner on Zoysia fairways this season, Wyndham’s a combined 47 under par in those two tournaments. What better way to finish off an incredible year than with a fourth win in the fall?
Billy Horschel (+10000 FanDuel)
In the last four years, Billy Horschel has two PGA Tour and two DP World Tour wins. Both of those overseas wins came in the fall at the BMW PGA Championship.
A traveler his entire career, Horschel has already played both fall series events. Number 100 on the FEC points list, Billy cannot take any weeks off until he wins or cashes in a couple of high finishes.
A T13 last week in the Black Desert, Yokohama CC is a much better fit for this ball striker. A parkland course scoring machine, Horschel has the complete skill set needed to make the Baycurrent career win number 11.
Caddyshanks Picks
Jordan Spieth (+3900 DraftKings)
Spieth hasn’t played since the FedExCup Playoffs over 50 days ago, but that doesn’t matter. He said he’s feeling strong like bull this week.
“I feel as healthy and strong as ever. I don’t feel like I have restrictions like I did for a couple years,” he said Tuesday.
Well, that’s good enough for me, based on vibes alone, to take another ride on the Spieth rollercoaster.
Justin Thomas (+1900 DraftKings)
Justin Thomas has performed better than anyone else in this event, without winning it. At some point, he’s gonna get back to the winner’s circle, and why not now? My picks this week are vibes only.
For the third week in a row, an American under the age of 25 has won on the PGA TOUR.
Has that ever happened before?
It turns out that yes, it has—but only once.
Way back in 2017, Jordan Spieth, Xander Schauffele, Bryson DeChambeau, and Grayson Murray actually made it four weeks in a row.
Murray won the Barbasol Championship, which was played as an opposite-field event during The Open.
That group has gone on to collect seven major championships so far.
Maybe we should start sprinkling a few futures on Jackson Koivun, Michael Thorbjornsen, and Michael Brennan while we still can.
The Wyndham Championship
There must be something in the water at PGA TOUR U, because these kids are making birdies in bunches.
Yesterday, Michael Brennan made five birdies in a row on Nos. 4-8.
That stretch separated him from Beau Hossler, his closest pursuer, and combined with the 63 he shot on Saturday, it was enough to win him the tournament.
Brennan went on to birdie the 72nd hole and win by three strokes.
In the process, he vaulted himself inside the FedExCup top 50.
He was the only player to move into the top 50 from outside the bubble.
Jackson Koivun, who started the week at No. 70, remained there.
Brooks Koepka, Jason Day, and Keegan Bradley saw their seasons come to an end.

The FedExCup Playoffs kick off this week with the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind.

The Genesis Scottish Open has been on a really good run the last few years.
Xander’s win in 2022. Rory with that insane, sawed-off long iron in 2023. Bobby Mac winning his home Open. And, of course, the kid from New Jersey staring down Rory on Sunday last year.
All to say, the Scottish Open is quietly becoming one of the better events on TOUR.
The field is always strong because it falls the week before The Open, and guys want to get over there, get adjusted, and remember what golf looks like when it’s played the way it was meant to be played.
It would be great to see these guys play links golf more than twice a year. I’m not sure how feasible that is, but every time they do it, the product is better.

Chris Gotterup will be looking to defend his title against the best of the best.
Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, and Xander Schauffele headline a full field of 156 players this week.
Key Stats For The Genesis Scottish Open
Here are the key stats for this week at The Renaissance Club:
- Start with putting, then approach. SG: Putting has the strongest correlation with SG: Total here at 0.631, with SG: Approach next at 0.532. This is not a pure ball-striking week. Guys need to make putts when chances come, especially if conditions get firm or windy.
- Distance helps more than accuracy. Driving accuracy is way down at 48.1%, but the missed fairway penalty is only 0.31, which is actually lighter than TOUR average. Distance correlates better than accuracy here, so don’t over-penalize bombers who miss fairways.
- Long approach play matters. The approach distribution leans heavier from 200–225 yards and 250+ yards, so this is a good week to favor players who handle longer irons, hybrids, and fairway woods. Wedge-only profiles are less attractive than guys who can survive from distance and still convert on the greens.

He has two top-six results here in the last three years, along with the ball speed and putting touch to get the job done.
Højgaard’s secret weapon? Iron play.
In his last three Scottish Open starts, Nicolai has gained an average of +5.3 strokes on approach. Combine that with his driver, and that’s a pretty strong formula.
Did I mention Højgaard ranked first in the field over the last two months in making putts inside 10 feet?

Scottie Scheffler (+480 DraftKings)
The “bet Scottie every week” strategy is running out of time, but we’ve still managed to pick four outright winners this year, so it hasn’t killed us yet.
He’s due.
Wyndham Clark (+3300 DraftKings)
Wyndham’s putter is on fire, and when you’re putting like that, it can become a superpower.
Matt Fitzpatrick and Chris Gotterup both already have three wins this season. Clark has a good chance to add his name to that list here.
Justin Thomas (+4000 DraftKings)
Justin Thomas has been rounding into form.
He has six straight top-20 finishes, and he’s in better form this year than he was last season, when he finished T22 at the Scottish Open.
