AP Invitational: Can Berger Hang On?
Daniel Berger (-13) enters moving day at the AP Invitational with a five shot lead.
But can he hang on?
According to the golf stat god, Justin Ray, the historical odds would be in his favor.
However, the last time someone had a lead this big at the AP Invitational, it was Adam Scott leading by seven strokes in 2014, he ultimately finished in 3rd place.
Another thing in Bergers favor? The greens. They are dead.
That’s going to make it difficult for the players chasing Berger to make birdies at the rate he did in slightly softer conditions Thursday morning.
As you can imagine, the Pros aren’t thrilled about the green conditions, which are supposedly rolling at a 14. Several players have commented about it.
“It’s been like this before,” Scheffler said. “Typically here, if you go late Friday, they’re pretty much already dead. It’s not anything unusual. It’s a good test. It’s hard. There are certain holes that get a little silly because the run-ups are soft and the greens are so firm. But it’s like that every year. This year is actually less windy.
“If we had crazy wind, they probably would have had to stop.”
