WM Open Update: Japanese Players Making Noise

Japan’s Ryo Hisatsune (-11) and Hideki Matsuyama (-10) stole the show on Friday.

As we mentioned earlier in the week, Hideki has won twice here, and the course clearly fits his eye - plus his recent form has been great.

At one point in Friday’s round, he made six birdies in a row.

Yet, his countrymen, Ryo Hisatsune, still caught him in the afternoon.

He shot a bogey-free 63, including a streak where he played five holes in six-under par. He has the outright lead as we enter moving day.

What about everybody else?

Scottie Scheffler (-4) had a rough first round. He shot over-par for the first time since, like, June of last year or something. He bounced back in the second round though - he shot six-under and got himself back in this thing.

Pierceson Coody (-8) and one of our picks of the week, Chris Gotterup (-8), are tied for third place.

Akshay Bhatia (-7), Sahith Theegala, Si Woo Kim, Matt Fitzpatrick, and John Parry are just four shots behind the leader.

Brooks Koepka and Jordan Spieth missed the cut.
