Quick Update: Hero World Challenge & Australian Open

Plus: Banana Peel Incident, Dog Who Can Putt, and More.

Good Afternoon. Yesterday, at the Australian Open, a banana peel incident occurred. Yes, you read that correctly. Rory McIlroy’s ball landed in a small bush, which a patron had discarded a banana peel in. He could not move the peel for fear of the ball moving, so he had to play it as it lies. Only in golf do you have moments like this. Watch Video

Path to Iron Compression: Simple Drills + Consistency = Results

Most golfers struggle with fat shots because their concept of how an iron should launch the ball is wrong. If you try to “help the ball into the air,” your low point shifts behind the ball and you hit the ground first. In this video, they break down the real concept behind solid iron play: your job is not to lift the ball. Your job is to make the ball go forward. The loft and angle of the club launch it up for you.

Quick Updates: HWC & Australian Open

The Return of Cam Smith

Remember the 2022 Open Championship?

Cam Smith putted lights out, beat Rory McIlroy on Sunday, and then immediately left it all behind for LIV.

After initially winning an event or two on the LIV Tour, he’s gone ice cold. He hasn’t won in two years and he missed the cut at every major this year.

That could all change this weekend in his home country of Australia.

Heading into the final round (which you can watch tonight on Golf Channel at 10pm ET) he is just two shots back of the leader, Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen.

Leaderboard: Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen (-14), Si Woo Kim (-12), Cam Smith (-12), Carlos Ortiz (-12), Jose Luis Ballester (-11), Daniel Hillier (-10), Adam Scott (-10), Min Woo Lee (-10), Wenyi Ding (-9), Lucas Herbert (-8), Rory McIlroy (-2)

5 Way Tie At Hero World Challenge

Here stateside, we’ve got a tight leaderboard at the Hero World Challenge.

Cameron Young, Hideki Matsuyama, Wyndham Clark, Akshay Bhatia and J.J. Spaun share the lead at 10-under through 36 holes.

Scottie Scheffler is lurking just one shot off the lead along with Sepp Straka and Alex Noren. Justin Rose is in solo 9th place at 8-under.

You can watch the action today from 12-2:30 p.m., GOLF Channel; 2:30-5 p.m., NBC, Peacock.
