Quick Update: Cognizant Classic
Austin Smotherman (-11) leads by three shots heading into the weekend at the Cognizant Classic.
If he can maintain his lead for 36 more holes, we’d have back-to-back first time winners on TOUR for the first time since…2024.
It happens more often than you think, but it won’t be easy. Not only are there some accomplished players creeping up behind him, but he’ll also have weather to contend with.
While the conditions on Thursday were pretty soft, the weather presented a bigger challenge on Friday. The TOUR is moving up play on Saturday due to incoming weather, and Sunday looks to be pretty choppy as well.
Taylor Moore sits solo second at 8-under after back-to-back 67s. A.J. Ewart fired the round of the day, a 64, to get to 7-under, where he’s tied with Nico Echavarria (72).
Who’s Chasing?
Joel Dahmen is in solo fifth place at 6-under.
Shane Lowry, Aaron Rai, and four others are at 5-under.
Seamus Power and Daniel Burger are at 4-under, while Max Homa is 3-under.
