Players Championship: Aberg Is A Machine
This Players is shaping up to be a good one.
As I write this on Saturday morning, the greens are already playing extremely firm and fast for the early groups. When the wind inevitably kicks up later today, things could get really tricky for the leaders.
They’ve also got the “better than most” hole location on 17 today to mark the 25th anniversary of Tiger Woods’ iconic putt.
And the leaderboard is absolutely stacked for moving day.
Ludvig Åberg is in pole position at 12-under, two shots clear of Xander Schauffele.
Åberg went nuclear on the front nine at TPC Sawgrass on Friday, carding a five-under 29. He made just one bogey on the back, added a couple more birdies, and signed for a nine-under 63.
Who’s Chasing?
Don’t look now, but Xander Schauffele is starting to look like himself again. If you recall, he won two majors in 2024, dealt with an injury, had a bit of a strange 2025, and now appears to be rounding back into major form.
Caddyshanks pick of the week Cameron Young sits at -9.
Justin Thomas bounced back after a rough week at Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club & Lodge. He and Corey Conners are tied at -8.
Sepp Straka is in solo sixth at -7.
After that, there’s a whole bunch of guys sitting around the -5 mark who could absolutely make a run.
