McIlroy: LIV Needs To Spend Billions More

Plus: Nelly Korda Engaged, Trump Chips In, and More.

Good Afternoon. If you missed the news, Fuzzy Zoeler passed away last week at the age of 74.

He was one of the sport’s few outsized personalities, a trait that occasionally landed him in hot water - most notably in 1997, when he made a racially charged joke about Tiger Woods that derailed his entire career.

In 1979, long before that debacle, he won The Masters in his very first appearance, a feat that hasn't been repeated in the 46 years since. Augusta National shared a tribute video to Fuzzy over the weekend, which you can watch here.

He also won the 1984 U.S. Open at Winged Foot in a playoff over Greg Norman, where, after watching Norman sink a long putt on 18 to tie, Fuzzy waved the white towel from the fairway. The next day, in an 18-hole playoff which Zoeller won by 8 strokes, Greg Norman waived the white towel back.

McIlroy: LIV Needs To Spend Billions More

CNBC's Scott Wapner sat down with pro golfer Rory McIlroy and TPG President Todd Sisitsky. They break down their sports investment partnership, where they see opportunity, and how McIlroy is shaping his post-golf business career. McIlroy also weighs in on PGA Tour leadership and LIV unification and relives the emotions of his Masters and Ryder Cup wins.

He talks about LIV at the 22 min mark.

Shrimp On The Barbie: Pro Golf In Australia This Week

David Puig Wins Australian PGA Championship

Puig, now playing on the LIV circuit, won the Australian PGA Championship this week by two shots over China’s Wenyi Ding. He’s a bit of an outlier among LIV players because he’s one of the few actively chasing OWGR points. Maybe that’s because he’s only 23, or maybe he’s just still hungry despite the Saudi payday — either way, it’s working. He’s earned full DP World Tour membership and just won in his very first start as a member.

He’s only the second Spaniard ever to win the Australian PGA, joining Seve Ballesteros — a near-mythic figure back home.

This week, he’ll be part of a stacked field trying to take the Australian Open.

Next Up: The Australian Open

What do Jack, Arnie, Player, Watson, and Norman all have in common? Each of them won the Australian Open.

It’ll be played this week at Royal Melbourne, one of the best golf courses on the planet. It recently claimed the No. 7 spot on Golf Digest’s “Best Courses in the World” list, and it’s an Alister MacKenzie masterpiece dating back to 1931.

The field is strong, too, with Rory McIlroy, Joaquin Niemann, Cam Smith, Adam Scott, and Min Woo Lee headlining.

As per usual, we will have picks out on Wednesday.
