Good Morning! Welcome to Shanks. We were saddened to hear about the passing of Carl Weathers, the legendary actor who played Apollo Creed in the Rocky films, and of course, Chubbs Peterson in Happy Gilmore. R.I.P Chubbs.
Here’s to Chubbs, wherever he is.
Here's what we've got for ya today:
These two are just flat out studs. There’s no other way to put it.
Yeah, we already know what Scottie Scheffler is, the World’s No. 1 golfer. Last year, he was a cold putter away from putting together one of the greatest statistical seasons of all time.
There were signs earlier in the year in Hawaii that maybe he was starting to find something with the flat stick. If that holds true, we could see some truly historic golf.
Now, let’s talk about Ludvig Aberg real quick. Yeah, he smacks it off the tee, but he does so accurately. Since turning pro last year, he ranks 3rd in SG off the tee.
The crazy part is, he can putt too. He started his second round 4-under through four holes. He made his pro debut in June and he’s out there making it look easy.
Thomas Detry got robbed with a bad bounce last week and was never really able to get himself back into contention. He’s playing like a man possessed so far this week at Pebble / Spyglass and he’s tied with Scottie and Ludvig for first at 11-under par.
Patrick Cantlay is in solo-fourth at 10-under.
Our pick to win, Justin Thomas, really does look like he’s back to form. He’s T-5 along with Matthieu Pavon and Emaliano Grillo.
Mixed bag this week, but we’ll take it!
Winner: Justin Thomas
Well, we’ve got a horse in the race. Let’s see if JT can deliver for Shanks readers.
Top Five: Jordan Spieth
Spieth is 3-under par and currently middle of the pack. He’ll need two strong rounds to cash.
Top Ten: Hideki Matsuyama
Not a great performance from Hideki. Gonna have to slap the gambling ban on him until further notice.
Top Twenty: Sahith Theegala
Safely inside the top-twenty for now. We may finally pick up our first top-twenty hit of the year here.
Longshot: Nick Dunlap
It was just too much to ask of the young man.
If you don’t have BetMGM yet, they have a new offer you can take advantage of not just for golf, but for the NFL Playoffs as well.
Tell me if this sounds familiar...
You're on the range, or playing a round with one swing thought. And it's working great for you!
But then, out of nowhere, you hit an ugly shot that derails your entire round.
You start thinking it might be the swing thought. So you tinker with it. Or add a second swing thought into the mix.
Before you know it, you're hitting ugly shots that you didn't even know were in your arsenal!
I know. It's frustrating!
Thankfully, there's a solution.
I discovered it after studying tour pros like Tiger Woods, Brooks Koepka, Fred Couples, and Tom Watson.
These greats all do one thing that lets them swing freely and make solid contact on a consistent basis.
And it's super easy to apply to your own golf game. It only takes 30 practice balls to make lasting permanent change.
TaylorMade is suing Costco for patent infringement.
They allege that their new Kirkland Signature Irons are a direct rip-off of the TaylorMade P790’s.
Shanks Says: I guess that means these Kirkland irons are pretty damn good.
